Many materials are produced via the state of melts and thus understanding of physico-chemica

The term of 'melts' essentially means what the term of 'liquid' does and is often used, in particular, when one refers to the state of substances which are melted at high temperatures. In this usage, for example, liquid iron is a kind of melt but liquid water is not. Many materials are produced via the state of melts and thus understanding of physico-chemical properties of melts is essential to materials process designing and its optimisation. This lecture mainly centres upon thermodynamics and phase diagrams for metal and its oxide melts, and aims at learning how to use the activity and how to read phase diagrams, in particular, for ternary systems containing melts, through many exercises.
