Outline of lecture

To provide an English language environment for learning technical English communication skills needed for research at the graduate student level.

Purpose of lecture

To introduce (survey) and apply key concepts of quality and reliability engineering for ceramic engineers from an industrial view point. The course will be taught, class discussions and all assignments will be given in English. Ceramics background is not required but basic understand of material properties is essential.

Plan of lecture

1.Introduction to reliability engineering and materials
2.Introduction to experimental design method for measurement of experimental reproducibility or error
3.Basic reliability mathematics: review of probability & statistics, distributions
4.Use of software for reliability data analysis, MS Excel
5.Accelerated testing methods and reliability for microelectronics devices
6.Failure mechanisms (FMEA) and analysis of microelectronic devices
7.Application of reliability methods for your research (class project and oral presentation)
