At the beginning of the course, we will focus on discussing the aims and challenges of constructing an academic presentation. Working within a basic format, students will start by creating simple presentations on familiar topics, gradually building up confidence and mastery. Students will also practice how to field questions from the audience. The final presentation will be on a topic related to a field of research at the university.
The aim of this course is to train students to give effective, academic-style computer presentations in English, in a confident and professional manner.
Students will have the opportunity to give a number of presentations in the classroom, on a selection of topics. Feedback will be given, and ways to improve language skills discussed and practiced. Students are required to bring their own laptop computers to the class, with PowerPoint (or similar software) installed.
Print-outs will be provided as needed.
This class is for undergraduates.
The final grade will be based on attendance, class work and participation, and the assessment of selected presentations.
