Outline of lecture
Kinji Akagawa is a famous public artist and a holder of McKnight Prize in the United States who designed a peace bridge in Minneapolis. In this term, he will continue to produce benches at the top flour of newly constructed building at a courtyard in the main building with students from May 3rd. This is an advanced course based upon last year's workshop. Students are required to participate this project by designing and making a bench in a small group under his guidance. Thus the skills of handing wood and other materials are preferable for participants. Those who are willing to attend a class are required to submit a short note including his or her reasons to attend a class and his or her past experiences about making arts and producing goods by 18th of April to the center for the study of world civilizations. The maximum number of participants will be limited due their skills.

To understand contemporary art world with special emphasis on dialogue community art conception and to implement this idea in making benches.

Plan of lecture
1. The lecture will be contextualized to speak about the issues of de-specialization of art.
2. The lecture will be structured to open a dialogue from subjective experiences into intersubjective experiences.
3. Work samples with a slide show.

After the completion of the contemporary art workshop;

a. presentation of completed studio work

b. appropriateness of the use of techniques and materials

c. overall presentation of ideas to the whole class
