講義概要
What different expressions of LIGHT can we find in the Arts? This will be the topic of the Modern Art Course A.
In the morning lectures I will introduce important artists from Europe, Japan and the USA, and in the following workshop the students will explore different approaches around the topic, including drawing, painting, using a living model and building a 3-dimensional object.
講義の目的
The students will gain fundamental knowledge about influental, international trends in the arts, about the background and meaning of artworks. They will achieve practical knowledge in using different materials and techniques and to express themselves in mainly 2-dimensional and also 3-dimensional artworks.
講義計画
The class will meet on four Saturdays, April 13, 20, 27 and May 11, from 10.30 to 17.30 (lunch break included)
1) "Still Life"
Paintings from Netherlands, France, Italy
In the workshop we will explore the effect of light on different kind of objects through drawing and painting.
2) "Light and Shadow"
Johannes Vermeer (Netherlands), Edward Hopper (USA)
In the workshop we will draw and paint the human figure, using a living model.
3) "Light as a Stage"
Hiroshi Sugimoto (Japan), Mark Rothko (USA)
In the workshop we will produce paintings of light by using self made photographs.
4) "Cosmic Light"
James Turrell (USA)
In the workshop we will build a 3-dimensional installation-model, experimenting with light in space.

The regular attendance of lecture and workshop, the participation, diligence and the artworks will begraded.
