Outline of lecture

"From Sculpture to Installation" - this is the topic of the Advanced Art Workshop A. What is the background of sculptural, 3-dimensional artworks expanding into space? In the morning lecture I will introduce important artworks of internationally recognized artists from Europe, Japan and the
USA. In the workshop the students will produce a figurative sculpture of clay, 3-dimensional objects and installations with diverse materials and in different techniques.

Purpose of lecture

The students will expand their basic knowledge of the arts. They will achieve deeper understanding and an advanced perception of important trends in modern and contemporary art. In the workshop, experimenting with different approaches, materials and techniques, they have the chance to express themselves in mainly 3-dimensional artworks

Plan of lecture

The class will meet on four Saturdays, June 1,8,15,22, from 10.30 to 17.30 (lunch break included)


1)"The Figure Enters Space"
The sculptures of Alberto Giacometti (Switzerland)
In the workshop we will make drawings and a sculpture of clay, using a living model.

2) "Arte Povera, an Italian Movement"
Mario Merz (Italy), Jannis Kounellis (Greece) and others
In the workshop we will produce a 3-dimensional object, using diverse materials.

3) "Trash Sculpture"
Thomas Hirschhorn (Switzerland)
Trash becomes art - we will build an object/ installation using random, "non value"-materials.

4) "The Spiritual Space"
Naito Rei (Japan)
In the workshop we will explore, how to make the spiritual visible in a 3-dimensional space, using colours, materials, objects an others.

Evaluation

The regular attendance of lecture and workshop, the participation, diligence and the artworks will be graded.
