This workshop focus on "Modern Life/Life in the Big Cities" reflected in the arts. In the lecture at the beginning of each class I will introduce the artworks of important European, American and Japanese artists with a host of visual materials and hand-outs. In the following workshop the students will learn how to express themselves in artworks. They will experiment with different kind of technics and materials, including drawing, painting, collage, photography, printing, using a model and others. At the end of the course the students will have the chance to show their artworks in a group exhibition.
The students will enlarge their fundamental knowledge about art, its background and meaning. They will achieve basic practical knowledge in how to use different materials and how to find sensitive ways in expressing themselves.
The class meets on four Saturdays, October 15 / 29, November 5 / 12, from 10.30 to 17.30 (lunch break included)
1) PARIS (the end of the 19th cenrury)
Urban scenes of Edouard Manet, Claude Monet, Pissaro and others.
In the workshop we will produce drawings and paintings.
2) BERLIN (in the twenties of the 20th century)
Streets, night-life, traffic and speed in the paintings of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Schmidt-Rottluff and others.
In the workshop we will produce drawings and paintings using a living model.
3) NEW YORK (in the sixties)
Pop Art / Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and others
In the workshop we will produce prints and an object.
4) TOKYO TODAY
Sugimoto Hiroshi, Yanagi Miwa, Aida Makoto and others.
We will produce drawings and photo stories.
