This workshop focus on TRADITIONAL AND NEW MATERIALS IN THE ARTS (The twentieth century up to today). In the lecture at the beginning of each class I will show important artworks of European, American, Japanese and Chinese artists with a host of visual materials and hand-outs. In the following workshop the students will produce mainly three-dimensional artworks, experimenting with wood, fabric, string and other materials. At the end of the course the students will have the chance to show their artworks in a group exhibition.
The students will achieve practical experience in producing three-dimensional artworks. They will learn how to express themselves in diverse materials. The students will expand their basic knowledge about important trends in the visual arts and will train their sensitive perception.
The class meets on four Saturdays, November 26, December 3 / 10 / 17, from 10.30 to 17.30 (lunch break included).
1) WOOD
Hans Arp, Stefan Balkenhol, Tony Cragg and others
In the workshop we will produce a sculpture, using wood and color.
2) FABRIC
Claes Oldenburg, Franz Erhard Walther and others
In the workshop we will produce three-dimensional objects with fabric, paint and other materials.
3) STRING
Tomaso Saraceno, Shiota Chiharo and others
In the workshop we will produce an installation, creating objects and space with string.
4) EARTH, TEA, CHOCOLATE....
Walter de Maria, Ai Weiwei and others
In the workshop we will use all kinds of materials.
