講義概要

A workshop on the basics of photography, where students will be presented works by professional photographers and will be guided on how to make photos under different conditions while paying attention to light, color and composition.

講義の目的

The purpose of this workshop is to help students develop their photography skills in order to also be able to express themselves in their photos.

講義計画

Lesson 01
Students should be advised in advance to bring samples of their photos so that I can see the level of their photographic skill.
Introduction on what we will be doing during the workshop.
We will talk about composition while also looking at examples from professional photographer’s photos in a slideshow.
The students will be assigned to produce photos based on what we will talk about in the lesson.

Lesson 02
We will look and comment on the pictures that the students have produced according the previous lesson’s assignment.
I will talk about color and light while also looking at examples from professional photographer’s photos in a slideshow.
The students will be assigned to produce photos based on what we will talk about in the lesson.

Lesson 03
We will look and comment on the pictures that the students have produced according the previous lesson’s assignment.
I will talk about street photography and a location and a theme for each student to shoot during the next lesson.

Lesson 04
Photoshooting on location with the students
Each student will produce pictures according to a theme by using the guidance that was provided in the previous lessons and I will be available to help them during the photoshooting.

Lesson 05
We will look and comment on the pictures that the students have produced during the previous lesson.

Lesson 06
I will talk about portrait photography on location while also looking at examples from professional photographer’s photos in a slideshow.
The students will be assigned to produce photos based on what we will talk about in the lesson.

Lesson 07
We will look and comment on the pictures that the students have produced according the previous lesson’s assignment.
I will talk about using artificial light for producing portraits and I will show simple ways of using artificial lighting for photographing a person. We will use a flash attached on a camera and two tungsten lights.
The students will be assigned to produce photos based on what we will talk about during the lesson by photographing one of their fellow students.

Lesson 08
We will look and comment on the pictures that the students have produced according the previous lesson’s assignment.
We will select pictures from the previous lessons to edit during the next lesson.
Introduction on how to use ”Adobe Bridge” software for editing/selecting photos.

Lesson 09
Introduction on the basics of “Adobe Photoshop” software and how it can be used for editing photos.
The students will work on selected photos on the university’s computers or they can use their own if they have “Photoshop” and “Bridge” software.

教科書・参考書等

Photocopies with technical information on composition, samples of photos and on how to produce photos that will document an event will be provided to the students in the first lesson.

成績評価

Your grade for the course will be based on your participation in our class meetings and the work you produce for the classes. This, however, requires that you attend class regularly and also that you be prepared for class by doing any required research, shooting the required pictures and selecting the images to view in the class in advance. These you can bring on a CD/DVD or a memory card. 70% of your course grade will come from the effort you will put and the quality of work that you will be able to produce.

担当教員の一言

INSTRUCTOR: Photographer Androniki Christodoulou, a Tokyo-based professional photographer who is mainly documenting life in Japan and Japanese culture. Her work is published in international magazines and newspapers.
PRESENTATION: Digital presentations/projections with photos by professional photographers will be presented in the class.
COMMUNICATION: Because of the limited time of this workshop and for making the most out of it, it is important that the students bring their work at the class for commenting regularly.
