講義概要
This workshop is based on the meaning and expression of SPACE in the arts. In various materials and technics the students will learn how to express themselves in artworks, focussing on space. In the lecture at the beginning of each class I will introduce the artworks of important European, American and Japanese artists with lots of visual materials and hand-outs. The students will learn how to experiment with different kinds of materials and technics, including drawing, painting, collage and three-dimensional objects and spaces. At the end of the course they will have the chance to show their artworks in a group exhibition.
講義の目的
The students will enlarge their sensitive perception of artworks and its various ways of expression. They will achieve basic practical knowledge in how to use materials and how to find sensitive ways in expressing themselves.
講義計画
The class meets on four Saturdays, October 30 , November 6 / 13 / 20, from 10.30 to 17.30 (lunch break included）
1) "Inside and Outside of Architecture"
Giotto (Italy - painting, architecture) / Jenny Holzer (America - installations)
In the workshop we will explore how to combine painting and the three-dimensional space.
2) "Space, Unfolded"
Paul Cezanne (France - drawing, painting) / Pablo Picasso (Spain - painting, drawing, sculpture, collage)
We will experience how space can be expressed by the means of drawing, painting and collage.
3) "Spiritual Spaces"
The Palace of Knossos, Crete / Naito Rei (Japan - installations)
We will build 3-dimensional objects and create personal spaces.
4) "Location and Universe"
Edouardo Chillida (Spain - drawing, painting, paper-cut, sculpture)
We will produce a sculpture in papier-mache and other materials.
