The topic of this course is COLOR. The students will produce two- and three-dimensional artworks, learning how to express themselves in various ways and materials, focussing on the vital impact of color and its various possibilities of use and expression. The workshop will be based on the the artworks of seven important European artists, whom I will introduce in the first 90 minutes of each class with lots of visual materials and hand-outs. At the end of the course the students will have the chance to show their artworks in a group exhibition.
The students will achieve basic knowledge and sensitive understanding of important artistic trends in Europe. They will achieve basic practical knowledge about color, beginning with the concrete material up to the infinite ways of its use in an artwork and its possibilities of personal expression.
The class meets on four Saturdays and one Sunday, April 17 / 24, May 1 / 9, from 10.30 to 17.30 (lunch break included)
1) "Body becomes Color"
Tizian (Italy - painting) / Francis Bacon (England - painting)
In the workshop we will use a living model, exploring the representation of the human body in drawing and painting.
2) "Searching for the Pure Color"
Henri Matisse (France - painting, paper-cut) / Yves Klein (France - painting, sculpture, performance etc.)
Using paper-cut, painting, printing etc. we will learn various ways of color and expression in the human image.
3) "The Vital Transformation"
Vincent van Gogh (Netherlands - painting) / Katharina Grosse (Germany - painting, installations)
We will explore the emotional impact of color and how to create a three-dimensional space.
4) "The Experiment will never End"
Gerhard Richter (Germany - painting)
We will experiment with various technics of color and abstraction, harmony and rhythm.
