In this course the students will produce mainly three-dimensional artworks. Beginning with the human body up to abstract sculpture, they will expand their practical knowledge in using various materials and the ways of personal expression in the three-dimensional space. In a lecture, at the beginning of each class, the history of Western sculpture up to today will be presented with lots of visual materials and hand-outs, and will ins pire the following workshop. At the end of this course the students will have the chance to present their artworks in a group exhibition.
The students will learn various ways in how to express themselves in three-dimensional artworks, experimenting with various means and materials. The will achieve fundamental and sensitive knowledge about the history of Western sculpture.
The class meets on four Saturdays, May 29, June 5 / 12 / 19, from 10.30 to 17.30 (lunch break included)
1) "Human Body becomes Stone"
The beginning of Western sculpture in Ancient Greece and Rome.
In the workshop we will use a living model, exploring the ways how to express a human body in drawing and painting.
2) "Delicate Existences"
Auguste Rodin (France) / Alberto Giacometti (Swiss)
Again we will use a living model, producing sculptures with papier mache.
3) "Expanding into Abstraction"
Pablo Picasso (Spain) / Constantin Brancusi (Rumania)
With various materials we will produce three-dimensional objects.
4) "The Stone goes back to Nature"
Richard Long (Great-Britain)
We will produce artworks with natural materials within nature.
