講義概要

In this course the students will produce art works, experimenting with different materials and mainly learning how to express themselves by the means of light and shadow in drawing, painting and by other means.
The workshop will be inspired and based on the art works of main European and American artists from the past up to today, whom I will introduce with lots of visual materials in the first 90 minutes of each class.
After the end of the course students will have the chance to show their art works in a group exhibition.
Trained academic skills are not required.

講義計画

The class meets on four Saturdays from 10.00 A.M to 5.00 P.M.
There will be a lunch break of one hour after the lecture.

1) Introduction: the course, the students, the teacher
"Light and Stillness"
Vermeer (Netherlands) and Edward Hopper (America)
In the workshop we will draw and paint "still life", examining the effect of light and shadow on objects and in colours.

2) "Light and the Human Drama"
Rembrandt (Netherlands) and Caravaggio (Italy)
In the workshop we will draw and paint the human figure with a living model and examine the effect of light and shadow on the shapes of a human body.

3) "Light and Nature"
William Turner (England) and Claude Monet (France).
In the workshop we will paint and examine the effects of light in nature and space.

4) "Light becomes Colour, Colour becomes Light"
Mark Rothko (America) and Dan Flavin (America)
We will produce 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional abstract art works by painting and other technical means.

Any student with a medium-level knowledge of English will find these course invaluable.

成績評価

Artworks,participation and diligence will be graded.
