英語圏の大学で教育を受けるのに十分な英語力を身につけることを目標とし,英語による口頭表現能力の向上のための訓練を行う。
To prepare for interviews related to studying or working abroad.
To simulate an English-speaking university classroom where discussion of well-prepared material is central.
To master techniques for giving smooth and effective presentations.
Each class will have three components:
1) Learning and practicing interviewing techniques. We will pay attention to English language modes of self-presentation that differ culturally form Japanese ones. Students will play the roles of interviewer and interviewee, and will receive feedback both from peers and from a native English speaker, the instructor.
2) Learning and practicing presenting styles used in academic and business settings.
Students will gain confidence and ability to speak in public with and without the use of PowerPoint.
3) Learning and practicing academic discussion in English through the use of engaging texts. Each student will choose from a large collection reading material that is sufficiently challenging. We will critique our discussion techniques.
